Isle of Ehrdice
The “Frigid Isle” is located just northeast of Kahlmdahl, the seat of the Eastern Kingdoms. The Isle of Ehrdice’s northern region is composed of glacial mountains. The south enjoys a more mild climate made possible by warm ocean currents. The majority of Ehrdice’s foliage consists of pine trees and the remaining fauna is rarely larger than a sparrow or mouse. Many deep freezes forced the native Ehrdiceys to hunt down whatever would allow their families to survive another day.
The exact origin of the Ehrdicey people is a mystery, but they eventually settled along the isle’s rocky shores and learned to harness the resources of the Eastern Sea. Their persistence and ingenuity allowed for great advances in nautical technology such as seafaring vessels adept at handling deep sea conditions. Some historians believe the Free Armada, a massive floating kingdom, helped push the Ehrdiceys to become more seafaring in order to help the islanders avoid starvation during their annual freezes. Others believe the first Ehrdiceys used land bridges to cross from eastern Medehra before glaciers leveled these natural overpasses.
Ehrdiceys pride themselves on two things: their hospitality and their sense of humor. Taller, wider, and stronger than the average humanoid inhabitant of Ehra, many believe the Ehrdiceys have Dwarven blood running through their veins. However, when comparing Ehrdiceys to some of the northern Medehran tribes who can actually trace the Dwarven blood in their veins, differences can be seen regarding limb proportions and other features. This difference has led many scholars to believe the Isle of Ehrdice was once inhabited by humanoid giants who somehow bred with humans to create a race of people who could survive the harsh conditions of Ehrdice without using as many resources. Excavations of giant bones in the foothills of northern Ehrdice support this theory.
