The Trident

This odd geographical area consisting of three peninsulas earned its nickname during the early incursions of La’Gaseean navies into Medehra’s waterways circa the 2nd century AB. The Trident’s weather—largely unpredictable to foreigners—and its choppy seas destroyed many invaders before they even made it to their far shores. The Trident’s eastern shores teemed with creatures both magical and deadly at that time, which guaranteed the invaders would not find reprieve on dry land either. The La’Gaseean forces eventually learned their lesson and turned their sights to softer targets both north and south of the Driestak, or Trident.

Much of the Trident’s eastern tips still belongs to lush rain forests and their inhabitants. Most residents of the Trident made peace with the fact that the jungle cannot be conquered, it can only be asked for forgiveness. Still, travelers can observe the odd road snaking its way through the tree maze or seaside docks where some of the most exotic fruit in Ehra can be found.

The majority of people who call the Trident home—colloquially known as Tri-Pointers—live in the central or western regions of the three peninsulas. From north to south, the Peninsulas are Lebrolos, Mal Kees, and Peninsula of Kings. Much blood has been spilled between the three nations over hundreds of years but never was there enough blood to yield a unifying ruler of the Trident. Border skirmishes between the three peninsulas only stopped in the past few hundred years with the attempted invasions of the La’Gasee. The Tri-Pointers were quick to put aside old feuds and band together when the tall foreigners from the east stepped foot on their shores.

It is believed that the original inhabitants of the Trident migrated from southern Medehra thousands of years ago. The western and central forests of the Trident provided resources beyond imagination for people who were accustomed to living nomadic lives on Medehran prairies. Within a short period of time, towns and trade ports popped up throughout the Trident.

The people of Lebrolos, Mal Kees, and Peninsula of Kings all share a deep respect for magic and those who can wield it. It is said that the first and last person that a Tri-Pointer sees in their lives is the local shaman. The Trident’s progressive stance on magic attracted many talented mages, wizards, sorcerers, and witches to its lands. The influx of magic did not come without problems of course but things always seemed to level out.

Unfortunately, the Trident’s celebration of all things magic eventually made it a candidate for annexation by the Almari Empire, whose foundation was built upon the principle of regulating magic use.
