Wrynn Orloff was born in 406 AB on his family’s estate near the Imperial capital of Crown’s Throne. The Orloff family’s sizable wealth was accumulated generations prior. Males of the Orloff family could request their inheritance from their patriarch only after serving in the Imperial Army. This motivated Wrynn Orloff to join the Imperial ranks in 424 AB.
Orloff’s impressive height and strength allowed him to perform his duties with ease. He excelled at combat training but also showed talent in strategic thinking. Orloff was eventually commissioned as an Imperial officer. He deployed to the Trident with the rest of the Imperial war machine in 432 AB.
The cold and calculating nature of Wrynn Orloff rubbed many the wrong way. He would send his own troops on what he blatantly referred to as “suicide missions” just to save himself a minor inconvenience. Injured or ill soldiers under Orloff’s command somehow never made it through a night in their hospital beds. Causes of death were never clear. Tales of Orloff’s cruelty and warped sense of pragmatism spread throughout the ranks. It was only amid credible threats of mutiny that Orloff’s superiors stepped in and relieved him of his command.
General Zerline, a top-tier commander in the Imperial Army, appealed to his peers on Orloff’s behalf. He cited Orloff’s knack for pulling off improbable victories with limited resources. The Imperial Army leaders agreed to reinstate Orloff’s command with a key stipulation: Orloff would only be allowed to command mercenary and/or foreign forces hired by the Empire. Orloff, eager to get back to the battlefield, agreed to the terms of his reinstatement.
Orloff earned his infamy at the Siege of Jareeko Hill in western Mal Kees. Jareeko Hill was a critical supply hub for the Trident’s defense forces. However, the town’s geography and thick walls presented quite a challenge to would-be invaders. Imperial attempts to transport siege equipment anywhere close to Jareeko Hill were met with Trident light cavalry raids and various other forms of sabotage. Infantry advances towards the town were met with fierce resistance from Lieutenants Kala and Vose Medhai. These setbacks are what forced General Zerline to call upon Orloff.
Captain Wrynn Orloff led his band of hired swords through thick woods that allowed them to circumvent the famed Trident cavalry. His mercenary infantry laid siege to Jareeko Hill for a week before Orloff’s favorite unit, the Fist of the Damned, was able to locate a secret passage through the walls. Much of what transpired at Jareeko Hill has been lost to history or removed from books by Imperial historians. What is known is that Wrynn Orloff was once again relieved of his command due to the slaughter and destruction of everyone and everything within Jareeko Hill’s walls.
Orloff never answered for what happened that day. He took absence without leave from Imperial Army duty and disappeared. The Crown’s Shield has reason to believe that Orloff became a member of the Fist of the Damned and currently operates in the remote parts of northern Medehra.
